Premium Pet Food Brands — We Only Stock the Best
Every brand on our shelves has earned its spot. No junk. No fillers. No compromises.
Why the Pet Food at Big Box Stores Falls Short
Walk into a PetSmart or Petco and you'll see beautifully designed bags with words like "natural," "wholesome," and "balanced." But flip that bag around and read the ingredients — and you'll often find corn, wheat gluten, by-products, artificial preservatives, and fillers that do nothing for your pet's health.
Big box stores carry what sells, not what's best. Their shelf space decisions are driven by manufacturer relationships and marketing budgets, not nutritional quality.
We built Peoria's Pet Market on a different philosophy: if we wouldn't feed it to our own pets, it doesn't go on our shelves.
The PPM Standard
Every brand we carry must meet our minimum criteria:
- No corn or corn by-products — a cheap filler with low nutritional value
- No wheat gluten — a common allergen and cheap protein booster
- No unnamed by-products — "meat by-products" can mean almost anything
- No artificial colors, flavors, or preservatives
- Named protein source as the first ingredient — chicken, not "poultry"
- Transparent sourcing — we like knowing where the ingredients come from

Common Questions About Premium Pet Food
Raw pet food is made from uncooked meat, organs, and bones — the type of diet dogs and cats evolved eating. When properly prepared and handled, it's safe and often results in dramatic improvements in coat quality, digestion, energy, and dental health. We carry frozen raw, freeze-dried raw, and raw-coated kibble options. Stop in and we'll walk you through the differences.
Corn isn't inherently toxic, but it's used as a cheap filler in many pet foods — it adds bulk and calories without meaningful nutritional value. It's also a common allergen for dogs and cats. More importantly, when corn appears early in an ingredient list, it means there's less room for quality protein. We prefer foods where real, named protein sources lead the ingredient list.
"Meat by-products" or "poultry by-products" can legally include virtually any part of the animal not defined as muscle meat — feet, beaks, intestines, lungs, and more. While some by-products (like organs) are actually nutritious, the problem with unlabeled by-products is you have no idea what you're actually feeding your pet. We prefer brands that name every ingredient specifically.
Premium food does cost more per bag — but here's the thing: your pet typically needs to eat less of it because the nutritional density is higher. And many of our customers tell us they spend less on vet bills once their pet is eating better. Think of it as an investment in long-term health. Come in and we can help you find a quality food that fits your budget.
